1998 S70 (not driven in a year aftermath-Issues)

Post by Nailedtothe417 » Tue Jul 12, 2016 1:52 am

Life happened and I neglected my perfectly (then) working 1998 Volvo S70.
It now starts fine and slowly idles down at random and dies.
So far I have:
Installed a new battery.
Filled up the gas tank.
Changed the oil.
Replaced all spark plugs.
QMI Fuel & Induction Decarbonization Kit (EK10T)
Replaced a vacuum line to the intake.
Cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor.

All with no fix...Am I right in focusing on the throttle body,O2 sensors and fuel pump replay next?
Thank you all in advance.

I would check the fuel pressure at the rail while running.

Test the fuel pump relay with a simple jump wire

Throwing parts is expensive, it's cheaper and faster to diagnose faults than symptoms

Thank you very much for the fast reply.
Would some quick checking on this fourm or YouTube lead me to the results on how to do those two procedures.
Would you suggest any certain way over another?
Semi-new to all this.

Your fuel may be gunked up. Did you leave the car sitting with a full tank of gas? If not, that would speed up the process of the fuel getting stale.

Also, is it doing this without throwing any codes?

Sadly, no it was sitting on empty but,I did fill up with the highest grade this week.
It does have lights on the dash but, I don't have a reader.
Willing to buy one if anyone has a recommendation.

I bought an older version of this years ago:

Works great, but it's not cheap. You can probably get something from Amazon way cheaper, but I'm sure others here may have recommendations as well.
Knowing the codes is essential for troubleshooting.

I would recommend an ELM327 adapter, and the Torque app for reading codes, if you have an Android phone. You can snag a bluetooth ELM327 for a few bucks off ebay, and that'll allow you to read stored codes.

Great. After work I'll review this thread again and place an order for one.
Thanks!
