Rear Driver Side Window Rolls Down But Won't Roll Back Up (using the rear button)

Post by SleeStak69 » Sun Jul 24, 2016 4:30 am

I looked on the forums here and heard that by flipping the button up and down really fast can get it to work, tried it and it worked... But now it's being stubborn again :x . So is there a way to easily open up either the door panel or just somehow get an angle to spray maybe some electrical cleaner spray down there? Also, is there a way to make the rear windows go completely down or is it stock like that? (First Volvo :) )

My rear passenger side windows wouldn't go up and the front driver side window was starting to act up too. I took apart the center window switches, all of the switches had 2 burnt contacts. I used a diamond file to sand off the burnt parts, and then, before putting them back together, removed the steel ball and spring, and stretched the spring a bit, about 1-2mm or so.

Did that work? I think I need to open in the rear because the master switches up front work fine

It could still be either switch.
For these systems to work correctly, master and local,
ALL the contacts have to be good in BOTH switches.

Anyone know of a DIY write up W/pictures? Easy job or should I have my local euro shop do it?

Getting the trim off the doors is simple - unscrew the torx screws along the bottom and in the handle, then pull out and lift up. Be careful not to stress wiring. Be prepared to break some clips in the process - they're cheapo plastic things.
Here's Robert's (rspi) video on removing the door panel.

Leave switch in or push it up and out, clean and reassemble. First time job is probably 1 hour or so of fiddling, including reassembly.

- Re removing switch: if you are slow and methodical (wrap a small screwdrive with cloth and go around), you can remove the Master Switch w/o removing the door panel.
- There is a thread on dis-assembly of the switch on clean the RR contact points in forum.

- Re NEW master switch: Volvo OEM is $140.

- However, many here have had success using "Switch Doctor" brand, which costs only $22.50:
