98 V/S 70 Schematic Q

Post by sleddriver »

I'm doing some research on hooking up fog lights in my 98 V70. I searched for the wiring schematics and found this link: http://volvowiringdiagrams.com/?dir=vol ... 20Diagrams. I did find the fog ckt in there, but oddly there is no reference to the headlight ckt. The index shows no entry for "Head lights". WUWT? I thought headlights were a good thing??

The reason is the 213 jumper, labeled 34/13 on document page 82. (Note this will be different for the pdf page numbers). This "bridge" connects pin 2 of relay 2/2 (201 J relay) to "2/1A:3".

I've spent hours looking for what "2/1A:3" is. Finally discovered it on doc-page 83. "2/1" refers to the headlight relay in the engine compartment we know as the 104/108 relay.

No wonder it took so long to find. So I went back looking for the headlight ckt to see if I missed it. Doesn't look like it. Confused....is there a link for a COMPLETE 98 S/V-70 wiring diagram to ease my angst?

Moving on....

I've looked in several junkers now but no joy on "fog lamp bridge" 213 or 34/13. I did find some links on VS about making a jumper and how to configure it. (http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/13 ... 13-jumper/ & http://volvospeed.com/install_performan ... n_mod.html & http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/topic/30 ... ts/?page=4)

But I'm still a bit puzzled where is the head light ckt wiring diagram and why isn't it in the pdf mentioned above?

Confused......

Update:
Found a 97 850 schematic pdf....clearly shows the head light ckt:

Here's a close-up of the headlight relay 2/1:

This shows 2/1:1A as always hot.

Q: is a 98 V/S/C 70 the same as the 97 850 diagram?
Q: Is 2/1A:3 = headlight relay 2/1, wire # 1A, pin 3? Should it be read as 2/1_1A:3?
Q: Assuming my reasoning is correct, Voltage needs to be applied (either straight or via the ignition switch) to pin 3 of "Fog Lamp Bridge" 34/13 (i.e. relay 213) in order to energize relay 2/2 (i.e. relay 201 "J" "Fog Light Relay") so the fog light switch will work, correct?

Q: Also found no joy in finding a front fog light switch in the yard. So I pulled a rear fog light switch 9162976-99W07K (3/58 on diagram), thinking I'd just use it until I find the front SW. The indicator bulb inside is burned out + it's not wired according to the 98 schematic. More confusion......

I plan on hooking up the parts I found and see if I can make it work. The "Fog lamp bridge/jumper" I can easily make and hopefully get it into the correct pins.

I'm still looking for the two shorted air dam inserts + the FRONT fog SW.

What you appear to have there is a C70 book.
Kinda the same and kinda different than an S/V.

If you can get that link to work, ( it just redirects
to Russian porn sites from my location...), go back
for the right book. Then have fun with all of the
out of sequence pages. The headlights are in there!

Hello there,

I am not entirely sure what you are looking for, but here are the diagrams for the Fog Lights and the Head Lights.
See if these drawings help at all.

I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi there, Mr. Al! Much appreciate you posting that information. I did finally figure it out after I realized I had a disk my indy gave me a while back with some schematics on it, showing the diagrams you posted. I was going to post them, but the confuser I use here currently has an unpowered DVD drive it. It's a small form factor Dell. The OEM PS died and they no longer make new ones. So I rigged a standard PS to get her back on-line. Unfortunately, SFF Dell's use a laptop-sized drive instead of a full-sized drive, thus the standard PS power connectors don't fit! Go figure....never had a SFF machine before. Lesson learned....

Your fog lamp schematic shows it well....there are two dotted lines coming out of the bottom of part 34/13 (the bridge mentioned earlier). The VO (violet) wire is for US/CDN markets, to control when relay 2/2 is enabled.

On the "High/Low Beam" schematic, the HL relay is labeled 2/1. On the left edge of it is the wire & connection I was looking for.

These two are meant to connect on USA cars. Rather aggravating the C70 wiring diagram I was using didn't have the high/low beam schematic in it. Very odd that.....Notice in the 850 Hi/Low schematic that pin is shown unconnected.

Thanks for taking time to post those! I look forward to having it all wired up soon.
