Ignition Coil Connector Terminal tool

Post by m96ag » Mon Oct 03, 2016 10:31 am

Hi guys, I was wondering what the proper terminal release tool for the ignition coil connector pins is. I found the multi pronged ones online but for GM and Audi/VW. There are also sets of 20 or so tools that cost over $100. I just need 1 to swap a connector body because I broke the lock tab off. Thanks

I bought a small set of the tools advertised on line to try to replace a connector on a wiring harness on an 850 but found them fragile and mostly useless. I ended up using a small jewelers screwdriver to flatten the tab, and then carefully raise it again before re-fitting. The one I needed really needs to have 2 tab depressors as there were one either side of the pin.

I did see the fancy sets you mentioned, but still not convinced I can justify the cost v's the number of times I'd ever likely use them.

Would it be easier to cut and splice another cable and connector?

I think I used an AMP brand removal tool but they have several sizes for their different series. I use a variety of connector tools with my day job and I have a whole box full of them, all sizes and shapes. A jewelers screwdriver will usually work with some fiddling with it.
