+1 for TRW, my 97 has both the original Tie Rods (my dad is original owner so I'm confident they are original) and the car has 180,000km on it!
It was sprayed every year but it has never missed a winter and there is no play and zero grease leakage.

I will never buy after market steering components, your safety is at risk and you save peanuts.

+1 to mecheng: For the great majority of us, the car came from the factory with TRW tie rods. And they lasted a good 15 years or so, in most cases.

After one experience with $15 tie rods several years ago, I now always go with TRW.

I had this exact experience with aftermarket parts (specifically Meyle and Uro) on one of my previous Volvos ('90 240). Went with the cheaper parts to save money, as I was a broke recently-graduated college student. That ended up biting me in the butt. I figured, I could have driven on the worn out parts just a little longer (they weren't that bad yet) and in that time I could have saved enough to buy Volvo or OE-manufacturer parts.

Well, you can try to see if FCP Euro will allow to return under warranty and pay the difference for a Lemforder tie rod...nothing ventured nothing gained. I have a both Lemforder and Meyle suspension parts on my BMW X-5 & 328 and they both have performed excellently over the last 2 years. Look at the bright side...it is still less expensive than buying from a dealer.

The replaced TRW tie rod ends on my car see a lot of salt. So far they have lasted a bunch of years, would have to check to know how many.

Hey clifford06, we've driven about 6500 miles on these tie rod ends. (About half a year's worth of miles for most folks, no?) I'm sure they got some salt. But the winter wasn't too bad this past year other than a handful of days.

Samtara1, I'm sure FCP will take them. They've been great. Especially when a whole bunch of Proparts pieces gave out at the same time... But to lose the money on an alignment, this just plain sucks. All I needed was two years out of these parts... But, as is known to most folks on her, the Volvo Gods demand their tributes...

Don't forget to write review of the part in the FCP catalogue keep it terse and factual.

" part lasted 12 months, 10000 miles then rubber cracked and grease seeped out."

Parts places can't afford to test every part that they sell, they rely on us to feedback on both performance and how the company stands behind their product. If every Meyle tie rod is coming back on warranty, FCP isn't going to eat that forever, so a warranty repair sends a message.

You can replace a tight tie tod end without a front wheel alignment, especially with an identical replacement part
