Guys...
Two days, two different belts (Dayco first and now Continental). Same size as the old belt but I cannot get it back on. I used the new routing and nothing. When I get to the last pulley its about an inch short. I even thought that maybe its too cold outside and it shrunk so I warmed it up and still nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks

Are you using a proper serpentine belt tool? You really have to get the tensioner pulled back all the way it will go for the belt to slide on. Easiest way for me is to get it all looped around and then slide it over the power steering pulley last. Make sure the belt isn't riding the lip of one of the lower pulleys and that there's no slack anywhere. I'm always surprised by how much of a pain the serp belt is.
If none of that works, then I'd assume you have an incorrect belt or that you're trying the routing wrong. What do you mean by "new routing"?

I googled belt routing and I have it go around the crank, ac, up to alternator, down to idler pulley and up around the ps pump. When I get to the PS pump pulley (with the tensioner pulled all the way back) I need another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to slide it on the pulley. I am using Contitech 1743.

So are you using this routing? :

I put it around the idler pulley last.

Conti 1743 is the right number, you're good there.

Also what work did you do with the belt off, did any of those pulleys move (alternator, etc.)?

They don't shrink in cold weather. Probably the tensioner isn't pulled fully in - its pretty tight. If it rides up on that little ridge on a pulley, it won't fit either...

If possible try putting it onto the smooth idler pulley last. You won't have a lip to fight. Whether you can reach your hand down there depends on what kind of tool you're using to loosen the tensioner though.

It's really easy to incorrectly fit it to the crank pulley and lose the slack there.
