Rule #1: check what you have in the car first!
My 1998 S70 GLT:
- NA axle on passenger side (dealer bought it at local NAPA and installed it for the P.O.).
- Turbo axle on left side.
I only found out after I took the right axle out for repair!!!
So, again, check what you have in the car first!

This is great advice. Before you order anything eyeball the axle, figure out which kind it is. I had a similar thing happen to me, my NA had one turbo axle.

Thanks for all the tips guys ... I will be sure to order GKN and to check both axles before I order anything.

After looking through the service history record on my "new" S70T5m, I found the previous owner had recently replaced the axles, outer tie rods and sway bar links.
Axles - SurTrack brand
Tie Rods - Mevotech brand
Links - Altrom brand
I guess that explains why there's hella noise now coming from the axles and a slight oil leak and where the right shaft goes into the transmission after 5000 miles.

I would be scouring the junkyards and part-outs for Volvo branded axles.
