2000 Volvo S70 Shuts off While Driving

Post by Eddienorgard »

Would appreciate anyone's insight. I have a 2000 Volvo s70 sitting in my driveway. It was my first car but I bought a used 2006 S60 a couple years back so haven't driven the S70 in a long awhile. It had a radiator issue which sparked me to get the new vehicle because i felt it was time for an upgrade. I want to fix up the S70 now but I'm having an issue other than the radiator. The car tends to die while driving it but more commonly I've noticed when you break just a little too hard while in motion. The car shuts off entirely, engine and electronics alike. It's very odd and I can't figure out why this might be happening. Usually the car starts back up again after it dies but you have to manually restart the car with the key. Has anyone experienced something similar to this? I just want to make sure it's a fixable issue before I fix up this rust bucket. If it's a lost cause I'll just scrap it at this point. Thanks in advance.

PS: battery terminals are as tight and clean as can be.

This sounds like a bad vacuum leak i had on my N/A s70, because it would have the same symptoms intermediately. For the most part the car would drop rpms and stutter for a few seconds while the car was coming to stop and then it would shoot back up once the car stopped. Does it idle rough?
