uneven rear ride height with Koni FSD + Eibach coils

Post by alvin_a_garcia » Mon May 22, 2017 11:06 am

Hi all,

I installed some Koni FSD struts & shocks and Eibach coils on my 1999 V70 T5M years ago. From the onset, one side in the rear sat higher than the other side. I thought that perhaps I hadn't seated one of the coils properly in its lower spring perch. Recently, I decided to uninstall them and reinstall them, this time taking special care with how I seated them in the lower spring perches. However, after all that work, the car is still sitting uneven in the rear. I was wondering if anybody had any potential explanations for this discrepancy.

Thanks.
Alvin

V70 should had nivomats at rear.Did you used conversion kit for normal shocks or just a standard kit?
When you remove nivomats in order to install different type of shocks, you would need different springs and upper mounts for "normal" shocks.
You can't just remove nivomats and install normal shocks in their place.

Not all V70's have Nivomats. My 2000 has regular shocks and springs. I believe all the AWD variants only came with Nivomat self-levelling shocks.

scot850...my '97 850 have nivomats. It came from factory equipped with them.
How would be possible that '99 v70 T5 don't have them?

Different markets have different costs spent on them. I could spend ages with examples, but one is that the North American and Japanese Volvos (P80) had a more complex emissions system then the European vehicles. That is why I had so much difficult finding parts for my 2000 'R' when repairing the emissions as parts are limited to here for availability and stocks.

My 2000 V70 NA has the basic shocks:

I find the European cars often are higher spec'd than over here. I know cars sold in Britain were often higher spec'd even on base models than in the rest of Europe.

Back to OP question. Have you spoken to the Eibach suppliers or Eibach themselves? Could just be a badly made coil spring.

Neil.

Pull the shocks out and see how the car sits....assuming it ever stops bouncing.

My 99 T5 wagon has standard springs and shocks out back. How do you like the FSDs? My Eibachs are paired with STR.Ts, which were significantly cheaper. Rides pretty well, body motions are well-controlled.
