RIP - different sound?

RIP - different sound?

My 96 R has the standard intercooler piping. And it is very quiet, even under full throttle.
The 94 T5M though, which has teh stock RIP, is really loud and throaty. Only things non stock I see on it are a rip in the hood insulation and a cheap aftermarket muffler because the old one was rusted out. It´s not droning, just throaty.

I would say cheap aftermarket muffler makes the most difference.

Do't see the RIP kit as being the issue as most of the pipework goes across the top of the engine, but into the top of the intercooler and the lower pipe goes into the throttle body. Never understood the point of RIP systems on road cars unless you cheange the intercooler to have bigger outlets. Even then for the cost the gain is minimal.

Likely issue is the muffler system, or maybe there is a crack in the flex pipe? Our 2000 V70 NA has a nice little roar from the muffler system when pressing hard on the gas pedal. I don't know if the system is OE or not, but it is not wearing or unpleasant. My 2000 'R' with the larger bore system and aftermarket twin outlet pipes at the rear only gets throaty when flooring the gas pedal, otherwise again fairly quiet.
