1996 850R Fuel Tank Heat Shield/Protection Plate

Hi,

I was able to find a picture of the part that is having an issue from this site. Basically the connection where labeled "detachment" is still on and perfectly fine, however the other sections towards the other end are not connected to the tank causing the shield to drop down. I am not sure how many connections there are to the tank but it looks like mine is only connected now at this one point.

What is involved in fixing this and how important is this piece? Not sure if I am able to fix it or need to take it somewhere. Who would be best to take it to?

I replaced the shield on my 2000 V70 FWD base as the PO had somehow managed to beat the life out of it and it had become bent and rusty at the mounts. The part was not expensive, but while I recall it having one mount on the RHS rear of the tank (which had been damaged and had to be epoxy glued back on) I just can't recall haw the LH end was mounted. Not sure if the 850 and V70 are the same, but on the first page I show pictures of the one on my car. It looks like there was a mount either end, but it was also held in place by the fuel tank straps.

Anyone know how the left side was mounted? Almost seems it is mounted in a few locations.

I think "Ozark Lee" posted info on this topic many years ago in forum.
Not sure if the factory recall is still in effect.
