The core charge on these heads is ~$400. Are you planning to swamp it with a pick-in-pull? With a pick-in-pull you would need to check the head for flatness, so there no getting around the $100 for a precision straight edge. If you got a lot of elbow grease and willing to work like an old school man. It is possible to true an aluminum head under the shade tree with simple homemade tools and a precision straight edge. Wet and dry sandpaper will cut aluminum, cut and true the head with wet and dry sandpaper planes.
The head is Volvo part number 8111178. Part number 5003932 with valves included.

One caution regarding the part number and applications. If you get a head from a non-turbo car, swap the exhaust valves from your turbo head. They are sodium filled in order to deal with the heat from the turbo.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Any 94-98 turbo engine, from an 850 or x70.
As per FLXC90, a non-turbo head is not a direct swap. Note that people have done the direct swap, but I wouldn't unless you swap in the exhaust valves from a turbo head. HPT to LPT doesn't matter, they use the same valves.
I would look for for a turbo head, it's pretty simple what works and they should be pretty common in Oregon. Why move over 10 exhaust valves if you don't need to.
