Reattach inner door panels

Post by bw77 » Wed Jul 18, 2018 12:57 pm

Need to reattach the inner door panels on my 99 S70.

What would be a good adhesive? Any of these?

GE Silicone Iron Grip
DAP contact cement
3M 77
3M molding tape

Thanks.

Double sided tape works just fine. I went that way with my V70.

I think I used plain old GE bathroom caulk that came from Home Depot.

I tried tape and caulk.

The tape I found nearly impossible to remove the red strip, on youtube it
looked trivially simple, not for me. The caulk did not hold even though I held it
down with weight overnight. So I said screw it, and 6 screws later it was back together.

I guess I have little patience for adhesive/trim work.

And the original problem I was trying to fix turns out to be a Volvo feature.
I have owned this car from new and had never heard of it before.

Each door actuator has a thermal protection feature, so in hot weather, or
if someone were to lock and unlock the doors repeatedly, they stop working.

I couldn't understand why the door locks worked a few times then quit. I
thought heat related, maybe a circuit board.

A learning experience all around.

I think I used hot glue.

You could also use Sonneborne NP-1. Problem is you could never remove them again.
