Sources for Catalytic Converter [1997 Volvo 850 GLT]

I'm looking for a catalytic converter for my 1997 Volvo 850 GLT (LPT).

My current muffler/catalytic pipes have been welded a few times and one of the welds recently split open (the
one where muffler/cat pipe come together just behind flat support plate). Spot where pipe is welded to back of cat still looks good.

I was disappointed to search three of the MVS sponsors and not find a catalytic converter for the 1997 850 LPT.
This seems like a bad sign.

I haven't checked with dealer yet but I expect the cost for cat from dealer might be more than my car is worth.

My regular guy doesn't recommend welding rusted twenty year old pipes/cat. He recommends buying a new car.

It may be time, especially if parts are not longer readily available, but I thought I'd check here first.

Yeah these are tough. Junkyards are not allowed to sell them to you, but that’s moot because it’s the first thing they cut off and recycle for $100 cash. Are you near Utica? Maybe go see Erie in the flesh and see if they can help?

Do you mean FCP Euro ID: 202466 or Part #: DEC-VO93523? This part doesn't come up when I set to my car (found via Google search) and I didn't see fitment info so I contacted FTP and individual told me they don't carry a cat for my car.

I did manage to find a few catalytic converters for my 850 on partsgeek with the note "Not legal for sale or use in California and New York" or "Not Legal In NY For Vehicles With California Emissions."

Most have this note. If the catalytic converter is illegal in NY maybe those 'delete' videos on youtube will make me legal.

I wouldn't scrap a perfectly good car over a rusty cat. You have a few options, some questionably legal. Have the exhaust welded again, unless it is completely turning to dust. Buy a used cat from a salvage yard, cash is key here. Buy a universal cat and have an exhaust shop weld it in. Or have a "test pipe" or "dummy cat" welded in place of the cat.

I do not know how or if NY does emissions inspections or if a 22 year old car is exempt. This will dictate what route you will have to take. Talk to local exhaust shops, odds are they do this a lot and know how to make it pass.

Eastern catalytic makes decent direct fit cat pipes. I only know about newer models but they are out there.

The 202466 cat shows up in FCP as NY legal. Worst case weld in the cat part if it’s a flange issue
