2001 C70 Convertible Window Regulator Replacement
2001 C70 Convertible Window Regulator Replacement
My drivers side window goes down, but hangs about half way back up. I understand the regulators in these cars are notorious for failing. I have been searching the net for instructions, videos or schematics that would aid in replacement. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't think the S70 and V70 have window reg problems and I think the C70 is built on the same parts. Lack of threads and DIY seem to support this.

The C70 has a way different assembly. The door is mostly a shell with the window regulator having the load bearing structure and a longitudinal boron steel beam. The window lift is cable affair with a fore-aft threaded adjuster (SOP through 99 had washers as shimming with a threaded device replacing that method). The lower attachments are tumblehome adjustment (effectively the window "camber"). The glass also is attached to regulator with torx bolts that have been superceded to bolts with torx head and torx ends. The glass has holes larger than the bolts so the glass some adjustment in all axes with the bolt ends accessible with door panel off. The original design would make you remove regulator to change window position on regulator if the fit was not right.
The mirror is also a guide and control of the fit at front edge and has mounting with a rounded profile to allow the adjustment.
I do not have a c70 to do a DIY video.

There are cable replacement kits made for the 98-2004 C70s now. They do not include the wheels the cables roll on. 98s broke the wheels but the 99 wasn't known for that. The cable kits are something like $30 each. That would mean the adjustments would not all be disturb

Have the same issue with my '99 convertible. Indy in Houston says they are notoriously expensive to fix and that Volvo has just recently made the parts available again. Says he will do it for $985. I did buy the kit and may try it as a DIY. I also found a window regulator repair shop in Phoenix that will rebuild ours for $399 we pay shipping. This rebuild uses all new METAL rollers new cable etc.
It is actually cheaper for me to drive to Phoenix and have them do it. PM me if you need additional info.
A member at SwedeSpeed warned me that the door is VERY fragile once the window cassette is removed and can possible crack, and that scares me a bit!
I am anxious to see what our solutions will be.
