I enjoy Wheeler Dealers too, and like some I too miss Edd China.
I noticed during the episode that a few of the parts in the 850 (as would be expected) had been replaced, such as the coolant expansion tank (which looks nice and clean) and the upper engine mount at the firewall (which is the newer style, not like the original)
Also the distributor cap is missing the black insulating cover (at least my '97 has a black cover). The ignition wires do not look like Bougicord OEM wires. You can see "Double Silicone. Ultimate Heat Protection" written on them -- those markings are not present on the OEM wires.
Wires:
Old positive battery cable (looks like it may be original -- I'm surprised it's still working well):
New upper engine mount at firewall and new-looking coolant expansion tank:

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R on wheelers dealers
If you buy a used R, isn't it likely to be run hard with lots of engine wear—and everything thereto attached, even if it was fairly well kept up and still looks good? Really, don't people buy a hot rod to run it like a hot rod?

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R on wheelers dealers
What I don’t get is the fascination with the T5-R, the T5 has the same hp. The only cool thing it has is the nice 17” rims and slightly better seats. It’s not like comparing a M3 to a regular 3 series.

Re: Volvo 850 T5-R on wheelers dealers
The T5-R is a limited edition which kind of makes it special. It also had a different interior etc.
For speed I would much rather have the later 850 R with a limited slip diff.
I have a T5-R because it was the only useable car I could find at the time.

The T5-R is the slower version of the T5.. The R stands for rear.
The very rare T5-J is only sold in Jacksonville FL and is the fastest Volvo in production.

I just never imagined the price they would sell it for. I almost died laughing when he told that girl the pcv job required taking most of the engine apart.
