1999 S70NA Evita dome light 9483142 troubleshooting [Passenger door switch fault]

Recall the driver door was swapped out, so the exterior handle and lock were switched over from the old door. Possible fault in/damage to the door harness during changeover?

The driver door switch 3/100 performs one function, closing the (normally open) switch when the door is opened.

This function also turns on the kick plate light and the door warning light , and these both function correctly. The same grounding also pulls a ground on the 2/76 lock controller telling it the door has been opened which should toggle the dome light on, but’s that function does not work, once the ignition has been brought out of cold state. It does work when the car is in the cold state.

Crazy.

I have confirmed the correct function of the BR ignition trigger wire to the 2/76 controller as an obvious culprit.

I love the smell of an electric problem in the morning.....smells like,......victory.

Two more things to note on this unresolved one

1 current drain problem on fuse 11A/6 about 200 mA....wouldn’t you know it. Fuse 11A/6 Also feeds the 2/76 lock controller

2 Abby reports the car won’t let her lock door while driving unless she toggles the done light to the ON position. If she uses the door lock button inside, the door locks quick cycle closed-open

If she activated the dome light once, that switch works.after returning it to the off position, the lock button still works

I’ve been inspired by another thread

I think one of the door lock actuators is sticking and keeping the lock controller active , which causes both current drain and lights on

CORVID Volvo Vacation - so going back after this one with Verve and Elan

Recap - logic related failure of interior lights. Lights stay on unless overhead switch placed in OFF position.

From cold start (car off for at least one hour, all CANBUS quiet) lights behave normally. As soon as key is in POS II, fault condition returns.

TODAY.....

Torx 8 and removal of passenger door harness.

LIGHTS now functionally normally.

Preliminary diganosis - passenger door fault in lock or switch sensor triggering 2/76 lock controller to stay active.

Situation: Can't go to work or no work to go to?
Solution: Work on Volvos
Results: Lower stress, no Covid-19 media overload, saving $$.

Reconnected door electronics, removed passenger side lock switch and lights work.

I bet this solves the key issue too, but we are headed for lockdown for four weeks, so that will be a while.

Current draw is now down to 45 mA, which is in range for this car when turned off.

1/2 battery charge drain time for 45 mA drain is about 40 days

You don't have the door lock switch on the parts car? I feel like '98 is the same part.
