There’s towing and there is towing.

You can tow anything with anything for 5 miles late at night with your flashers on and a good rope. I towed home my one coil failure on my T5 with my Beetle, SWMBO IN Beetle , me in T5 braking.

If you are going to be on an interstate, though, you won’t have the tow capacity to move a Volvo with a Volvo.

A roll on trailer plus Volvo will go way over, a front wheel dolly plus Volvo will be right at capacity.

I would have no problem towing a Volvo with a dolly, but I wouldn't use a full trailer on a P80. Maybe with the XC90 once we put a hitch on it, but not my V70R.

NC is one of a few states you can tow a 5000 GVR without trailer brakes but the minute you cross state lines you will be in the shinola.

NY brake requirement is > 1000 trailer weight or >3000 for load.

..and don't think for a minute you can claim since its legal in your state, other states have to reciprocate on trailer requirements. We make a lot of money off people who think that.

Just read up on PA trailer towing laws. Based on what I read, the majority of trailers I see on the road are illegal. Greater than 3000 pound gross trailer weight requires trailer brakes. This law is obviously unenforced. If towing on a flatbed I would need trailer brakes, however I found a loophole. If dolly towing, that would be trailer brake exempt. Good thing I only own a dolly.

Good thing I usually only buy in-state! I think Uhaul's car trailers actually have automatic brakes. The last car I towed was the 850, and I got a dolly and my cousin towed it with his F-150, which has a full towing package with the trailer brake controller and all. That's a really nice truck, and that 5.0 can handle it no problem! Otherwise, since I don't have any towing vehicle or trailer, I usually just call a flatbed. But that gets expensive. Fortunately I found a guy on Facebook who tows for much cheaper than the bigger companies around here. I paid $60 to get the S90 towed home and the other company that was able to do it sooner wanted $140! I told them forget it!

The Uhauls have surge brakes, as do a lot of trailers. Ive been pulled over and often, even uninspected, been cleared to drive if everything is in good repair in NYS.

Update with pics! Car runs and drives. Started right up with a jump pack. Idled flawlessly for over 40 mins while I looked at it. Paint is in pretty good shape, aside from minor touchup areas and a hint of rust on pass fender. Interior is good, driver's seat has splits. Went into forward and rev, drove around parking lot. Brakes are good. Engine is definitely not stock or original. Bigger turbo and I hear a blowoff valve, so assuming tuned. Digital boost gauge as well. Glove box is full of service receipts. All replaced parts appear to have mileage sharpied on them. Looked like someone had had the cover off the fuel pump before. Sticker says timing service done at 205,000mi in 2015 This car was definitely loved by someone for over 210k miles. The bad: needs new struts and shocks, exhaust has rust hole but a good welder should fix it, battery is DEAD, mechanic said steering was binding but I didn't notice it, driveshaft is missing. Also, fuel tank and spare tire area covered in a greasy residue. Smells petroleum based, but not quite like gasoline. Car has a full tank and has been sitting for over a month, so if tank is leaking it's very minor. No gas smell anywhere.

This car is too good for the crusher. I hope someone can save it. Owner must know by Monday if someone wants it. Car must be gone by next Friday 4/26/19. If I didn't just pick up 2 new projects, I'd take her home.

Edit: also comes with a set of alloy wheels with tires.
