Took her on the highway after getting the Ariane wheels on. Ride was better than expected with wasted struts/shocks. Crossed my fingers for cruise control... and of course it doesn't work.

Unfortunately this project ground to a halt today. As I reached down to pull the hood release, my hand was met by a limp handle and cable. Now I'm going to have to try and get the hood open tomorrow. Not looking forward to it.

On a 1999, cruise is integrated into the ETM. If you recently cleared codes or disconnected the battery , you will need to drive it a bit before cruise is re-enabled

Best way to do that is wedge a thin screwdriver or something between the hood and fender to release the turn signal, then get creative with a coat hanger, pick, pliers, or something to release that hood latch. Been there, done that! Multiple times!

Battery was dead when I bought it, and today was probably the first time it really completed a drive cycle. Will drive more and see if it starts working.

Yeah I'm not really looking forward to it. Fortunately there's a fair bit of gap around the hood. And one turn signal is busted, so I don't feel too bad about ripping it out. What's the angle I need to go for on this one?

On the turbo PSI. IIRC the TCM on Volvo's regulates the wastegate. The TCM is controlled by the ECU and if it's a LPT ECU that hasn't been tuned it'll blow the standard 6psi. This can be adjusted by tuning or a Manual Boost Controller (aka a bleed valve). So it could be an R manifold and turbo but w/o the tuning or ECU from a high pressure turbo it will not act like an R. Just my $.02

All 850's use a TD04 turbo just with different turbines (and maybe flanges?) IIRC. Not a TD04 expert as in tuning circles they were always viewed as a stock or unbuilt engine turbo. I think the optimum max boost is somewhere between 16 and 18 psi. Someone jump in here and correct me. 😁

Excited to see this build!

So I was finally able to pick up the '99 S70 AWD I saved from the crusher. $400 for the car with 218k miles (and 4 good Blizak snow tires) + $200 for brand new Falken sport tires on decent Ariane rims. Not a bad deal. She started right up and drove a few miles perfect.

What needs fixed ASAP: Needs new shocks / struts on all 4 corners (bouncy, bouncy). Heater core is 10/10 blown; heat wreaks of coolant and windshield has an oil film on it. Lastly, the ECC is having some issues. Driver's side vents only blow full hot (with summer coming that's a big TO DO), and the directional motor is a little lazy. Passenger side ECC everything works as expected.

The Good: interior isn't destroyed, all fluids look clean, paint is okay, found Volvo touch up paint in the trunk with some new front turn signals, and PCV and timing was done by Volvo at 205k miles.

Let the project begin...
... One day, my prince will come !

Well play callahanoffroad !

The TCV controls the wastegate, the TCM is the transmission control module on automatic cars. But yeah, the ECU controls the TCV to regulate boost. A manual boost controller can be used on 1998 and older models, but Motronic 7 does not cooperate with MBCs.
The turbines were all the same, but the compressor side is what changed. These P80s all used TD04HL turbos, with a 13g/13t, 15g/16t, 18t, or 19t compressor housing depending on the engine (LPT, HPT T5/R) and year. The exhaust flange to the downpipe is the only thing that changed on the exhaust side, being a conical flange on 1994-1995 (I think), straight on 1996-1998, and angled from 1999+.
Boost limits depend on the compressor. A 13g runs out of steam past probably 13 PSI, while a 19t could be pushed to 22-23
PSI efficiently.

For the turn signal, you'll just need to push down that tab and pull straight out. Then for the hood latch, use a flashlight and peek into that hole in the fender behind the turn signal, and see if you can see the tab on the hood latch where the cable from the cabin connects. Get something on there and pull.
I have an emergency cable on my '98 that I made with some garden wire. That way I can just pull the turn signal, grab on to the cable and pop the hood. Definitely a good idea to make a backup!

TCV! That's it. As back in the day I worked mostly with Honda's, Subies, and other Japanese cars they didn't have that. It was all vacuum actuated wastegates. Btw in my head it was "Turbo Control Module" hahaha aka EBC Electronic Boost Controller. :-)

Yeah, if the cable between the latches is in tact then you will be able to open both from that driver side latch.
