Great thread, I've been following this closely.

But I have to agree with Cookeh, photos of your work would be nice.

...something like 96% of all cars there are auto - dreadful.
It really is. As I've been driving my GLT again, my hate for automatics is slowly growing. I find myself more distracted. If I'm shifting, I can be more focused on driving, it's just so much more engaging to drive a manual car. I've been driving my brother's Miata the past couple days and it's so much more enjoyable than my GLT. Sure, it has like 120 hp compared to 200ish, but being able to shift makes all the difference as far as fun goes.

+1
The most fun to drive Volvo I've ever owned is the 05' V70 with stick shift. It feels like a totally different car with way more hp compared to my 04' with auto and the same engine. It sounds pretty cool too when you step on it :D .

It's not just you guys either, couple of the Ivy League unis have run psychological studies showing benefits of manuals - not just in reducing accidents due to being more engaging but also in (surprisingly) helping to control ADHD symptoms.

Regarding pictures, definitely the emergency hood cable we've covered in the other thread, I'm also a sucker for a well waxed car, and just in general pictures really make a thread. There might not be something immediately that grabs me but in a few months I might have to do a repair you've covered, at which point pictures really help with clarity.

I'm not at all surprised. I find that driving a manual car tends to clear my head, autos just can't do that. I'm sure for people with ADHD symptoms it has a similar effect. It helps to keep them focused.
I feel like that's half of my problem with automatics, I lose focus on driving unless I'm raging through some back roads... which I don't do as much with my GLT since my brother has had a Miata!

Who said anything about well waxed?

Will try to get some pictures up tomorrow. And my FCP order just came in today, so expect some pics of changing this oddly positioned AWD fuel filter.

I loved changing the fuel filter on my R. Didn't even have to jack up the car! I slid right under the back and reached up. Of course it helped that it was sitting at monster truck stance with the XC nivomats I have in there. It's much lower now with the nivomat spacers!

Update with pictures! Unfortunately no good news to report. Attempted to replace the badly rusted fuel filter. Of course the bracket bolt stripped out immediately.

Spent hours and $40 in expensive drill bits trying to drill it out. Seriously, what in the Swedish steel is this thing made out of? Bought cut off wheels for my Dremel, but there just isn't enough room to grind the head off safely. I'm admitting defeat on this one.

Looked at the rusty exhaust, definitely going to need welding.

Passenger, rear axle boot is torn.

And the worst find of all: Found a crack in the rear frame where the rear axles mount. The entire thing seems to be bent. Wondering how you pull this off. Suspicious the PO jumped it before selling. Wondering if it's even worth my time to continue, or should I consider this car scrap and dump all my expendable income back in my T5?

Wow, that doesn't look good! That could probably be welded, no?

You'd be best off rebuilding that axle though. Probably won't find another one too easily.

Thinking I'm going to need a parts car to swap the rear end out of. Everything back here is so rusty. Totally different from the front half.

That is aluminum and it's bent, so really not sure what can be done about it. I think most shops would refuse to weld it.
