Parts to pull off a 98 non-turbo wagon for a 2000 S70 turbo  Topic is solved

Post by jmorman »

I am seriously considering purchasing a 1998 S 70 non-turbo station wagon for $400.

“Believe to be blown head gasket but still runs.”

Best case scenario, I get it running for my daughter. Worst case scenario, I scrap it and pull all the parts off of it I can.
Definitely the tires and rims make it worth the effort for me, but how do I find out about things like brake parts, interior, etc. for compatibility?

Most interior and cosmetic stuff should be the same. The 98s are different than the 99-00 models though with a decent amount of the mechanical/electronic stuff. As far as checking compatibility, personally I'd hit up a couple of the big parts websites and start comparing part numbers for 98 vs 2000 for the stuff you want.

Most every bolt off part changed between 98 and the 99-00 " bastards"

For example

AC compressor
Alternator
Power steering pump
Coil(s)
Distributor

All different.

Don't use eBay as guidance for parts value, they are 3-5x overpriced, or worse.

I made a lot on a parts car but the stars aligned and I sold all the big , heavy non-shippable items in week one.

Mechanical wise, I believe brakes, hub, and axles, are the same between 98 and 2000.

If you decide to part it, pm me. There's some parts I've been looking for for far too long now.

I don't believe the axles are the same. At least they weren't between a 98 manual s70 and my 99 manual s70.

the 98 used the big nut at the end of the axle. My 99 used the a bolt. Totally different. That was true on manuals at least.

Hubs and axles are definitely different between 98 and 00, will not swap at all.

Almost all interior is the same (although wagon and sedan have different rear seats), brake parts all the same, wheels the same. Not much else swaps.

I could have sworn last I looked it up when parting a 99, 98 through 00 autos used the same axles. But that was based off a parts site and I suppose they are not always right.

-1998 reusable 36 mm castle nut

1999- on M8 14mm torque to yield , single use axle bolt with flange. No idea I feel the splines are the same and it’s just the hold would work, but I doubt it,

There’s not enough for me to be worth it. Besides, a few S70’s showed up at the scrap yard. That’s like free storage. :-)
