New to me 1998 S70 T5M in The Green Mountain State (VT)

Post by VTs70T5M »

New to the forums here. Live in southern VT and just found a 98 t5m from boston for $1500. Was one owner car titled in 98 by 50 year old woman who kept til late 2018. Just hit 198k, ive had about 2 weeks now amd have already done quite a bit. New engine oil, gear oil, plugs, wires, front rotors and pads, new ipd tcv, new silicone vacuum lines, new silicone turbo hoses, new poly upper engine bushing, new rear cam seals, new oil cap seal, cleaned ptc nipple, cleaned tb, i know more but can't remember at moment. Sprayed about everything in deep creep but so far everything has come apart easy. All lugs were never seized, plugs, etc. So has def been taken care of. AC blows ice cold, only downfall so far is ebrake doesnt seem hold and lot slop in handle. Seems have lot -hg at idle close to 30 could be cheap gauge though was $20 amazon special.

It is emerald green metallic #421
Ended up with spun rod bearing at 205k
Dropped a 60k b5234t9 from an 04 c70 hpt.
Port matched the 98 manifold.
Snabb rip kit, Snabb fresh air pipe, snabb fiber intake spacer, dw200 fuel pump, bosch 468cc injectors (Now maxxed), snow wmi injection, obx turbo back on 7cm angled flange ported, japanifold, 6+6 billet 22T hybrid with 9 blade turbine, mamba braided stainless feed lines, 960 3" maf, viva front + rear strut bar, 302mm bbk brembo rotors pads, 17x7 Vision Boost wheels on 215x40x17 federal rsr 595, new oem cap, rotor, kingsborne 8mm silicone wires, ngk bkr7es plugs (1 step colder) gapped .024 (to stop blowout at 23psi), exhaust vvt powered @ 5 degree retard base position, aem x series wb full lambda, glowshift boost gauge and oil temp in lotek 3 gauge pillar setup, swapped cluster, dash, radio, and climate bulbs to ultra blue t3 neo wedge led, green led fog (matches car color) shaved stock waterfall grille no badge plastic dipped matte black, poly subframe, new solid front and rear mounts, pcv changed to 5/8 hose to mishimoto baffled can returned to 99+ ptc relocated vacuum draw. I'm sure there stuff I'm forgetting and I wish I would've video/photo documented. I haven't updated post in over a year. The $12k was invested over the course of about 18 months.
So many inspirations, but seeing fwdgtp run mid 12s on this turbo was deciding factor. Mid 12s makes a really fun street car anything above that is forged internals territory. This engine also has the longer conrods can safely make 400whp on e85 or meth with good tuning. Next step is bigger injectors so I can run e85 on top of the meth and a spec clutch. I'm at the threshold for the stock clutch will slip slightly in high gears if quick shifting. Virtual dyno combined with maf #'s corresponds to about 340-350whp on a reasonable tune. Highest I saw was 372whp maf maxed 1407kg/h. Aaron at vast is the absolute way to go, calvin at sovagn is also knowledgeable. Aaron is the master hands down but calvin helped me with some antilag parameters to set when I didn't want to keep bothering Aaron to make changes and was supplied with xdf file.

I bought a p2 and it's been not at all as reliable.
2004 xc90 t6 for $1400 with fresh t belt and water pump.
Luckily haven't had trans issue but the hard start is driving me nuts after I have replaced everything ignition related battery starter etc, tested fuel system, new cpk, maf, purge valve. Runs and drives great but the 2 or 3 attempts to start every time its warm is embarrassing!!
Any way I've written more then most will read or want to lol.
Hope you all have a happy holiday..
Volvo 4 life!!

Rumor has it problems with starting when all of the ignition have been checked are likely Fuel Pump relay and coolant temp sensor... Your mileage may vary...
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
