Callahan - if the fan in my 1999 partout is still available and you are short on pizza dough, its yours for karmic pay. Check the part number in my thread in CLASSIFIEDS for compatibility. Its off a 1999 base but I think it will work

Hot tip - replace those horrible torx screws on the fan housing (x4) with SS 3/8 lag screws from LoweQuality and the fan is much easier to remove. They rust horribly there.

Isn't it great how part numbers like 9497929 end confusion ?

Just checked - my 1999 fan will work back to 1994 because they are both called 'cooling fan'

Good tip on the bolts!

Thanks for the generous offer, I have already ordered the mishimoto fan. If it doesn't work out I'll message you and we can work out a fair payment. :-)

It'll be here tomorrow so I'll let you know.

I would try out the Mishimoto fan. They make some pretty good parts.

Try to preserve as much factory connection for wiring as possible and if you go for a direct spliced connection, do it right and solder and shrink.

Or take abscate's fan.

I too screwed up. I should take more time to read the clear details that were laid out. 16" fan = Engine cooling fan and NOT cabin fan.

Sorry guys I don't have any of the engine cooling fans. Really sorry for the confusion.

Neil.

Got my new fan delivered today. :D

I'll get around to working on it tonight. I'll post pics.

Things I like: very beefy but thin. Comes with a double lifetime warranty. Mishimoto guarantees it as does FCP Euro. I don't know if it would survive mud like June's husband's hobby. Actually nothing survives mud that's why most off-roaders avoid that stuff like a plague. Mud destroys engines, electrical, driveshafts, axles... everything. The electrical cables are very thick and have nice plugs on the end. I bought some nice new electrical splices, and fresh electrical tape. I've got my multimeter, some saws, drill bits and miscellaneous other bits and bobs. I'll check back in a few hours with deets.

If by better you mean more overgrown with vegetation and more difficult to see from the highway, then yes!

Sadly most of our salvage yards are on the "east side" (and our strip clubs) there's a pick n pull in the city. But it's not in any better of an area!

Okay update from last night. Long story short I'm headed over to Greg850r's house tonight to pull a stock fan from his barn.

Here's the long explanation:

The Volvo fan is physically 15.5". The housing is 17".
20190716_194023.jpg
The mishimoto fan housing is 16" and the fans are 15.9". Physically it's a perfect fit. The mishimoto bolt holes line up damn near perfect to the Volvo ones.

20190716_194216.jpg
Here's the only issue. The mishimoto fan has one positive wire and one negative wire. The Volvo fan has TWO positive wires and one negative wire. This is because of the cooling fan relay.

So my options were to rewire, which I really don't mind doing. Or get a direct replacement from Greg who is about 25 minutes away. If this was my fun car id rewire. But Herman is my workhorse. I use him 12 hours a day and about 700 miles a week. So half wired wouldn't do.

I probably could splice those two positive wires into the single fan inlet but I don't really see the point when there's a direct replacement available.

Here's a wiring diagram showing the wires in question. For some reason the schematic is not physically accurate to the actual relay, but the colors and functions are correct.
