99' S70 interior light problem, how to troubleshoot?

Post by 850 LPT »

Hello everyone,

Most of the time the interior lights in my S70 don't come on when I open the driver door, or the passenger door for that matter.
This, of course, is happening with the overhead switch in the center position. So because of this I leave them turned off so the battery doesn't drain.

However, the other day I tried it out again while sitting in the car and I turned the switch to the center position, and the lights came on :o . I think in this case they shouldn't though because I didn't open any doors.

Does anybody know what could be wrong?

The PO must have wrestled with this before, because the foot well lights were removed when I got the car.

Thanks for any ideas you might have.

Dirk

Trade it in for a Honda

There is a long winded thread about troubleshooting my 1999 S70 with this and its a b****

My car is fine as long as the ignition has not been energized in a while , like hours, but the minute T30 gets 12 Volts my lights latch on and stay on regardless of door position.

BY the way.,, when I went to get keys made and coded to the VIN, I could not get it done as I was told one of the lock modules won't go inactive - a requirement for new keys

Couldn't it be just the microswitch in one of the door mechanism getting stuck ? And then somehow got unstuck so the lights stays on while the doors are closed

Five page thread on this here

you may want to look at the electrical diagram on the first page and run away as fast as you can.

Steve -- I changed the driver front door on that car, but I believe you have the old door. To the extent a "lock module" is associated with a particular door, harvesting the module from the old driver's door and swapping over may solve your key programming issue.

You have got to be kidding me.....

I just read through Steve's post, and I feel totally defeated already. Since I'm not nearly as smart as Steve I think I am just going to give up.

And buy a Honda.

My problem, and I think Dirks , are both logic fail related. I bet he sees the same behavior ido, that electrically cold modules work fine , but something is latching on incorrectly when powered up.

One test for a hyperactive module is if the antenna ring stays illuminated after shut down, that's a telltale.

I think I could get a rocket to the moon with all the parts in this system.

Merely the moon? I think you could likely make it to Mars and back...
