Jumpering across the fuel pump relay is a good and standard way to test it, people do it all the time. Failure of the main fuel relay however is rare, I haven't seen people do that, but in principle it's fine and definitely easy to try. I'd do that before buying a new one.

Those cheap relays have a bad history from users on this site, they often don't last very long.

Don't know about 850 cars but for 1998 V70, jump terminals 15 and 87. If fuel pump runs, then fuel relay is bad.
When jumping fuel relay, use proper jump wire with spade terminals.
Do NOT use paper clips!

Many of us have failed to read the thread, here is the last actual question:

Still trying to find answer to question of: Can I jump or "hardwire" across the Main Fuel Relay in order to get car started?
If I can do this after I receive my new coil and Fuel Pump Relay from eBay I can drive to Auto parts store to put on analyzer.

The OP is asking here about the fuel system relay not the fuel pump relay. He's got a fuel pump relay coming in the mail. A 98 does not have a separate fuel system relay, that goes through one of the J relays on a 98.

As the one armed man taught us,,,

“ Thatswhy we should always use part numbers and pictures “

( and read, too)

I do APPRECIATE all the hints, tech, and suggestions, yet after receiving new Fuel Pump Relay and new Ignition Coil still no start....UUUHHHGGGG!!! pin/30 red to grnd/green at Main Fuel Relay (1995 850 turbo wagon) and can hear some sort small pump motor I believe running. The "female plug" connector at Main Fuel Relay is GONE!! How or Why is beyond me?? Thought it was unusual that no plug (Believed VERY POOR design flaw) as all others do. So now trying to get this and a Main Fuel Relay (that's been checked) from Mayflower Volvo down the highway. I'm a former Indust/Comm Electrician and Plant Maint. for 17 yrs. Probably should have said so before....done my share of TS machines, Cont. Pnls and ALL my cars before. Only had this this 850 since Jan. First REAL trouble.
As for the Fuel Cut-Off Switch (supposed...to be a part of Collision/gas control in a wreck), but understand it can activate/shut down fuel pump if BAD hole in road, go over a curb to hard (driveways), even if something Heavy in rear seats moves...This is my next choice to TS about fuel pump not running....no matter what I do or jump across relays!! My fellow Volvo enthusiasts...Where is this Fuel Cut-Off Switch located on my 1995 850 Turbo Wagon... and is there more than one???
Sincerely Need All Help

The fuel pump is cut off by the ECU on crash detection, I don’t think there is a separate cutoff switch..

Are you still trying to get the fuel pump to run? Check for 12V output at the fuel pump relay, if that’s present, and it isn’t present at the pump, there is a wiring fault in between.

Jumping the main fuel relay isn’t solving the lack of 12V to pump, moreover , you have to work back from the fault, not forward from where voltage is present, or you will just be throwing parts.

TY. Yet, I have done all this. Checked all voltages and ohm'd out wiring. Replaced Fuel Pump Relay and coil w new parts...needed an extra relay to keep in car anyway and cheap at $15.00. Ignition Coil also cheap at $15.00. VERY Tight on money!! Bills due... So now Running out of causes for fuel pump not to run. There are Fuel Cut-Off Switches available online parts, so believe have one somewhere. Supposed to be within the SRS system on passenger side but unable to locate it. Said should be able to reset it. There is a seperate deploymet "pellet" system in side backrest on seats and somehow linked to fuel cut-off switch. I've studied and looked, but can't locate to reset this. Some models of vehicles switch reset is located on side kick panel front of passenger seat. a actual hole is there to reset this.

Your fuel pump runs with 12 bolts applied to it, so the pump is good.

Apply 12 V to pin 3 on the 2/23 fuel pump relay with the relay removed and tell us if the pump works and report the fuel pressure.

Throw out the sources telling you seat SRS connects to the fuel pump, that’s wrong

Its late now. Will apply 12v again to pin 3 and test at red on fuel pump wiring.
Are you saying there is no Inertia/Fuel Cut-Off Switch this 1995 850 turbo sportwagon? If there is one. Like Very Much to know where it is and how to reset it...as a possible problem my crank but no start scenario. Like to eliminate any and all problems this situation. Been w/o vehicle near a month. Can't afford a mechanic.

The safety deployment at sides of backrests is the SIPS (Side Impact Protection Sys).
