Windshield wiper recommendation for 2000 S70?
Does anyone have some wisdom for wiper blade replacement? Mine are looking pretty rough, trying to avoid buying the wrong thing. Was considering these?

I bought the second cheapest rain-x blades at walmart (beam type about $7.50 a piece). They've been on the car for 20k+ miles and seem to do a good job. You don't have to spend a lot to get a lot.

It is imperative that you only use OEM Volvo wipers on these cars. Other wipers will just fail on you, and then you will have to go out and buy Volvo wipers, anyway. It is false economy to use non-OEM Volvo wipers. Do it right the first time. I'm only kidding. It's amazing how much difference there is from brand to brand in wipers and how they have all gotten so expensive.

Costco use to sell those for $7.99 each. Currently they are selling Michelins for $8.99. It was on sale for $5.99 a couple of weeks ago. The Good Years had a hard shell on top whereas the Michelin's are soft / rubbery so it contoured with the blade on the windshield. Had lots of trouble with the Good Years and glad Costco got rid of them.

Not sure if the cover on the Good Year is still hard plastic. Pivot and flex in 2 sections so blade does not contour.
-
Michelins should work better or else Costco's great return policy just takes them back.

I have been buying the individual rubber inserts and replacing those once or twice a year. The inserts are available delivered from China for about $2/each. You have to rethread the insert through all the clamps -- it takes a little time, patience and double checking but it works well.
I have bought three times from this seller and it has been a good deal so far:

Re: Windshield wiper recommendation for 2000 S70?
I fully understand why stores stopped carrying these inserts but I sure do miss being able to buy just the inserts. It seems like such a waste throwing out perfectly good frames . Granted, these days, very few people change their own wipers and hardly any of those would go to figuring out to replace just the insert.jreed wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2019 5:21 amI have been buying the individual rubber inserts and replacing those once or twice a year. OP. Those wipers you linked to would work but seem to be quite expensive. I seem to change wipers on my car 2x a year and spend about $15 a pair. I generally wait until I find them on sale at Napa/Walmart, etc and get a few pair.

OP. Those wipers you linked to would work but seem to be quite expensive. My thought on that is based on the fact that I think those wipers are just rubber and not something exotic like silicone wipers.
