I’m getting the P0014 after my timing belt and intake cam seal onElizabeth
Timing marks are good, but the exhaust VVT pulley is hard over on the slots.
Should I trade it for the Rabbit that came to watch?

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code
The VVT hub is full advanced. Loosen the 3 8mm nuts, rotate the cam back and you should be good. I'd center it in the slots first try.

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code
I got that done yesterday but am still coding. I am trying to avoid the work of breaking down the rear cams and lock8ng them up but that might be the deed that need to be done
The Alldata procedure lists ( abbreviated)
Set timing marks with exhaust one notch advanced with oval slots at limit
Turn two revs
Loosen 8 mm and center oval slots
Check timing and tighten tensioner
I’ll try this again this morning unless I have to go pick up my cat, who now only has 7 lives remaining.

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code
Did you go all the way counter clockwise with the slots? That should not have been an issue if you only replaced the belt.
I seen that you recently replaced the intake front cam seal. Did you possibly loose good timing on it?

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code
No, I locked the belt with a ziptie, marked it and made sure it returned to the same place
I had this same trouble when I replaced the VVT hub a couple years ago, but then I had to tear down to lock the cams to release the T55 on the hub.
Here is the complete procedure per all data (Pictures omitted, bolding mine)
I had this same trouble when I replaced the VVT hub a couple years ago, but then I had to tear down to lock the cams to release the T55 on the hub.
Here is the complete procedure per all data (Pictures omitted, bolding mine)
Reinstall
Install the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit with the toothed belt pulley:
Slacken off, but do not remove, the screws which secure the timing gear pulley to the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit.
Press the timing gear pulley and variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit on to the camshaft.
Install the center screw which secures the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit to the camshaft. Do not tighten yet!
Install the upper camshaft belt cover.
Turn the timing gear pulley clockwise until the screws at the oval holes are in the limit position.
Continue turning clockwise until the timing gear pulley marking is 1 cog before the marking on the upper timing cover.
Check that the timing gear pulley is still in the limit position in the oval holes.
Tighten the center screw in the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit to 120 Nm (88 ft lbs).
Check that the Variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit does not rotate when tightening.
Install the center plug. Tighten to 35 Nm (26 ft lbs).
Install the timing gear pulley on the intake camshaft:
Install the timing gear pulley on the intake camshaft with two screws, but do not tighten.
Check that the markings on the timing gear pulley and the upper timing cover correspond.
Installing the timing belt
Tighten the center screw on the camshaft belt tensioner to 5 Nm (4 ft lbs).
Turn the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit clockwise until stop.
Hold the variable Valve Timing (VVT) unit secure at the clockwise limit position when the belt is being installed.
As illustrated.
Install the belt in the following order:
Install the camshaft belt over the pulley on the crankshaft.
Then install the belt as follows
Idler pulley.
Intake cam pulley.
Exhaust cam pulley.
Water pump.
Belt tensioner.
Note! Adjust the timing gear pulleys so that the screws are not at a limit position in the oval holes.

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code
I still have this pernicious ECM 644A code and[ have a theory
Summary to date
Car running well
Scheduled TB idler water pump and tensioner change at 250k, all well
Timing marks set, car starts and codes ECM 644A , which maps to P0014
All four cam flanks max out at -20mon start up, that points to timing belt position
VVT solenoid relatively new, has 12 V supply and also clicks on application of 12 volts
Measured 7 ohms DC resistance, spec is 3.7 but it’s an AC driven solenoid and my notes indicate that was previous measured value
I have reset timing 8 times , including setting the rear exhaust cam with the CTA tool per the basic timing position and still get the same code on startup
Working theory
When I did the VVT hub replacement about 70k ago, I had the same issue. I managed to find a spot where it did not\ code.
I suspect my VVT hub is not in the bas]ic correct place, and I have to crack it and reset it
I basically got lucky last time and found mag]ic spot
Will also measure cam position sensor
I’ve tried moving the exhaust noth -1, 0 +1 notches to see if I can find the magic spot, no luck so far. Car starts and runs well, no top end power due to inhibited boost though.
One kvetch about the basic setup
The procedure calls for a one tooth offset on the exhaust cam, then tightening the VVT hub with the 3 M4 (8mm) bolts fully ccw in t[he slots.
Then it has line, after installing the belts,
“ make sure the bolts are not a the limit of the slots”
What? You told me to put them there, and then never changed them, but now they can’t be where you told me to put them.

Did the big cam lock and VVT hub basic reset to go back to basics
For the first time I’m getting cam flanks of -18.x so I’m within one tooth of timed
I suspect the VVT hub had slipped on the camshaft

Update
Pulled the VVT and locked the cams up , setup the VVT.
Retimed
Same code, but for the first time showed cam flanks at -18
Advanced exhaust cam one tooth
Cam flanks still at -18
Hmmmmmm

Re: 1999 V70T5M56 timing belt job P0014 code, pernicious ECM 644A
Update today
Eliminated the cam sensor by swap with known good.
Elizabeth and Evita swapped Intake and Exhaust Cam sensors, part number 9186811
*** You got that wrong, FCP....
and both cars start and run fine with either.
Elizabeth reset to both timing marks on, and cam flanks back to that NEGATIVE 16-18 degree reading of one tooth error
I have moved it from -2 to +2 teeth without luck
Things that are left:
Cam reset valve (aka solenoid)
Failure in the VVT HUB. Ouch. Now $335
Go back to the original timing belt for test purposes.
