2000 v70 xc spark plug rectangular tops-electronic spark?

Post by djmeo »

I found rectangular caps above my spark plugs; and the wires leading in do not look like traditional spark plug wires. Is this a form of electronic ignition...and, if so, how do I safely remove them to provide access to remove the plugs?

Coil on plug ignition...

Here is an example of what I believe you are seeing...

Should be a single torx bolt on each holding it in. Usually no reason to remove them unless you're changing plugs.

I think stock coil hold down bolts are m6 with a10mm hex head.

Those bolts are important and need to be clean as they complete the coil ground , too.

Label both the coils and the wire with number 1-5, starting with number 1 at the far passenger side, right side of Dar, being number 1. You can mess up the order in which case your car won’t start
