2005 xc90 Recirculation motor only works when calibrating.

Post by ZionXIX »

Ive got a wierd one. My recirculation has been acting strange. It prefers to stay on recycle at all time and won't respond to the CCM button. However if I calibrate the dampers it works and responds to the button for a few minutes afterwards. I had the glove box out and could physically see the motor and arm moving the damper.

Any chance you have IAQS (interior air quality sensor) as an option in the vehicle? Easy way to validate is the Recirc button- if it has a Man and Auto button, you have an AQS. If there is just a single LED on the left with an icon for Recirc on the right, you do not have an AQS. Think recirc damper uses the signal to set position. Little sensor inside the right hand side air untake under cowl under the plastic screen at the windshield front. Probably has a connector that can get unplugged if that's what is causing causing the constant recirculation and if it's broke you should be getting a code If you DON'T have an AQS, I'll have nothing further to add other than a handy cut/paste "tip" from the user guide to set a timer on recirc:
-Timer mode activation: (Vehicles equipped with the Interior Air Quality System have no timer mode) Press and hold the recirculation button for at least 3 seconds to activate a recirculation timer mode. The amber LED in the recirculation button will flash 5 times to show that the timer mode is being activated. In timer mode, each time the recirculation button is pressed, the climate control system will recirculate the air in the passenger compartment for 5-12 minutes, depending on the outside air temperature, and then revert back to fresh air.
-Timer mode deactivation: Press and hold the recirculation button for 3 seconds. The amber LED in the recirculation button will illuminate steadily for 5 seconds to show a return to "normal" mode.

I just have the single LED with the recirculation symbol on the right. The CCM itself has an auto button. All the wires have continuity right up to the CCM. And I know the motor works since calibration cycles it. Its just really bizarre. I just did the ABS module rebuild abd now for the first time since owning this vehicle, there are no codes or messages on the dash. This is the very last thing before I can say "Everything works".

It best to leave one thing broken because that will delay onset of the next failure
