No, you don't have to drain it...I just do that so less of the new gets mixed with the old before I even begin the process.

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, I have read all the PDF attached, but I cannot find the "transmission fluid" plug. the shape of my car is entirely different than the posted on this forum.

I have 2005 XC90 T6. Made in Sweden

the pan comes off of mine and you change the filter. My transmission shop asked me why I was using the hose method like a dummy. My tranny is GM in this stupid thing.

T6 has GM transmission, no drain plug.
Just preformed transmission flush and filter change on my 2004 T6.
Very simple job.
Use vaccum pump to suck fluid out dip stick. You will get about six quarts.
Remove pan, replace filter. Fill transmission with 6 quarts of fluid.
Remove transmission fluid cooler return line, will be the straight line heading back to transmission from radiator. Attach tubing to return line, run line into clear 1 gallon jug such as milk bottle. Start car run until bottle fills half way about two quarts. Stop car, put 2 quarts of new transmission fluid in car. Keep doing this until your transmission fluid comes out clean.
For my complete flush and refill I used 15 quarts of Redline D4 ATF.
You can find pictures on line, just googgle Volvo XC90 T6 transmission flush.

I have a 2005 AWD XC90 and I did the transmission flush at 63000 miles (about 200 miles after I bought it). I used the Castrol multi car fluid from Wal-Mart http://www.walmart.com/ip/Castrol-Impor ... escription .

I did some research and it claimed to meet the 3309 standards but has also been discontinued and replaced. Everything seems to be running fine but whenever I check the levels it is always at the cold level, even after driving in the heat (live in south Alabama) for over an hour.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

What is the torque value for the T6 transmission pan bolts?

Is there something we need to reset in the volvo computer as well as the flush? I'm at 95k miles on a new to me 2004 xc90 and want to do this not knowing how the previous owner drove. I have the fluid on order already from FCP (Aisin OEM ATF-04 JWS3309) But I do not have Vida/Dice (I'm on mac OS too)

@3pfilms you would probably like to do this the same way as the dealer who would connect Vida and reset the fluid counter, however it's most important just to have new fluid protecting the wearing parts as a minimum.

You can download VMWare Player for Mac and then try the image files here on MVS. That would be a free option to see if it runs before purchasing a Vida Dice.
