Changing power steering pressure hose, 2004 XC 90
Has anyone done this recently and can offer any tips? Doesn't look to be too difficult but there are always surprises. I have to change mine next week and just wanter to know what I'm in for. Thanks in advance! 2004 2.5 litre XC90.

The pressure line from pump to rack ? I know on S60 is very tricky and it passes under the engine and cannot clear unless the subframe is lowered

On 2001 V70 T5 (FWD only), I was able to change the hose without lowering the subframe. It is difficult but possible. Your situation may be different for the 2004 XC90.

Finished this job yesterday and it was pretty nasty. The subframe had to be dropped in the rear to access the 16 mm fitting on the rack with an open end Crowfoot wrench, that was actually quite easy to get off, not tight or corroded and somewhat accessible after dropping the rear about 4 inches. Note: Did not have to at any time remove the return line for accessibility reasons.
I then had to drop the front of the subframe and remove the passenger side and front motor mount and transmission torque link to get the old line out, honestly it took about an hour of wiggling it and maneuvering to figure out how to get both ends out and at times I didn't think it was possible until it miraculously came free of the vehicle. Getting the new hose in place was almost as puzzling. Take lots of pictures so you know where it goes under/over certain other parts and pieces upon removal.
A hoist would be a huge asset. I had the vehicle jacked up about 18-20 inches and you kinda need that amount of space at a minimum get the hose in or our without bending it, this is where a hoist would make the job easier.
You will find it necessary to drop both ends of the subframe and jack the engine up to get this hose out and the new one back in.
All this being said, the whole job took about 3-4 hours and probably saved a few hundred in shop labor.

It was at 284,000 kms. The hose was leaking on the rubber portion just behind the radiator. It was leaking pretty bad!
