Hello all,
I have found a potential keeper that I will be looking at next week. Shes a 2005 with 2.5T @86,000 miles. Consistent but detail lacking service history. Owners manuel says to run 5w30 or 10w30. This is Texas for me. My 850 runs on 5w40 year round. Can I use the same oil in the xc90? How do I tell if there is a premium sound system? I would like to add a grom unit for bluetooth.
Soon to be mine 2005 xc90

Can't go wrong with either Rotella T6 or Castrol Edge. For many years used a 15W-40 in hot weather and cooler winters without issue in all the cars till the 98 S70 T5 didn't like it when it went below freezing. Went from Rotella T6 to Castrol as one car requires it for warranty so all get the 0W-40 now.
I still think the Rotella T6 is more robust for hotter climates.

Since this is basically the same engine as my 850 I figured I could run the same oil and not keep 2 types in my garage. 5w40 has served me well. The old 850 manual said to use 5w40 for my climate but the xc90 does not mention it. I can't imagine it being a huge problem.

I've been using Pennzoil EURO 5w40 on my Volvos (850, V70XC, XC90) for many years. No issues -- annual oil & filter change with 7000-9000 miles of urban driving.ZionXIX wrote: ↑Thu Jan 14, 2021 7:28 am Since this is basically the same engine as my 850 I figured I could run the same oil and not keep 2 types in my garage. 5w40 has served me well.
