Magnet is set wrong in relation to shaft. There is some play on magnet to shaft mentioned in top left picture above. In some cases you will get an ETM you can use as a bookend if you don't use this adjustment.

Normally you don't really need to change the position of the magnet.

Try "the basic way" first, and then move towards the (eventually) necessary troubleshooting.

Old topic reboot, sorry for that. The Sacer I ordered off of Ebay UK didn't mention anything about a voltage test before or after fitting the TPS. So here I am in the same boat as others, with the double clicking ETM. I find that if I manually hold the throttle valve open which applying power, I can get the ETM to do the self test and the car works normally again. So my question is: is it too late to adjust the magnet to get the correct voltage output, or was it too late once the old TPS was removed? Thanks in advance!

With these symptoms if you measure the voltage across pins 1 & 3 it will either be below 1.24V or over 1.6V

These voltages are outside of the initialisation range for the ETM. Adjustment of the magnet in relation to the shaft will fix the problem. You will notice that the magnet has axial play on the throttle flap shaft of around 2-3 degrees.

Centralise the magnet within that 2-3 degree range and the unit should start up. If it doesn't measure the voltage and adjust the magnet accordingly. Clockwise in relation to the magnet decreases voltage and anticlockwise in relation to the magnet increases voltage.

Bend the brass terminals toward the ETM each time you reassemble to test but don't solder until the voltage is set up properly. One day I'll do a comprehensive video showing how to set up voltages as this hasn't been covered anywhere.

Ideal voltage is 1.42V because it is the centre point of the ETMs upper and lower tolerance points.

Precopster, thanks for the reply and tips. Hopefully I'll get time to fix this over the next day or two. I'll let you know what I find and how it turns out.

I finally got around to checking the voltage and fixing the magnet position. Initially the voltage was at 1.29vdc, which while in the good range was still at the low end. So I centered the magnet to to 1.42vdc and now it seems to be fine. Thanks for the help!

hello to all

New to forum and Volvo as well.

I recently bought 2002 Volvo v 70 2.4 non turbo and all was fine until las week.

first car started uneven idling with or without ac on. and than started start up troubles.
when I start the engine cold, more or less everything is fine but on worm engine rpm-s goes up to red line and than drop down ti 900-1000 and sounds like its misfiring. if I turn ignition off and than start again, after 4 attempts the car will run normally, otherwise it will be in limp mode. hook it up on dephi scanner and there were few codes.
some vacuum leak witch I managed to clear and one for the ETM

code is 9160 - throttle plate internal error - temporary which I cannot clear

I ordered Sacer TPS on ebay and I hope that it will sort my problem out.

I found this thread very useful.
will post more when sacer arrives.

TPS changed and everything was fine for about 2 months. the yellow triangle appeared so I took delphi car diag. and scanned for codes.
there was only one code stored and it was 9160.
i have this rough engine running from time to time again.

I really don't know what could go wrong this time since tps has been changed with sacer contactless sensor. I did all the voltage check and adjusted it before putting it back together

any help would be appreciated

Check the soldering on the black wire side (as this is ECM-9160 sensor 1) to be sure it hasn't dislodged.

Sometimes the board fails and if you view with Vida you can see that one of the TPS positions has gone to 108 degrees indicating that the board no longer processes the signal and assumes full throttle for that sensor.
