1980 240 DL question
I have a 1980 240 DL Volvo that will not stay running. I have taken the intake off as well as the fuel distributor. My younger brother took off all the vacuum lines and did not mark them. I can get the car to start and run for a few seconds then it floods out and will not start again. I know it is flooding out due to the HUGE gas smell
If I try to turn it over for a while with it sputtering it will try and start a few times but will not kick off. After a few minutes of this it will stop turning over all together. At first I thought that it was the battery going dead but it was not. I took the spark plugs out and found the cylinders to be COMPLETELY full of gas. With the spark plugs out and coil disconnected to prevent a fire I turned it over and it shot gas about 60 feet across my driveway. A solid stream of gas. I talked to my older brother about this and he suggested that I have the fuel injectors cleaned and flow tested so I did. The company stated that the fuel infectors were dirty but everything was good now. I replaced them and tried it again. Low and behold more gas in the cylinders. In the process of trying to fix the fuel problem my younger brother that took everything apart for me FORGOT the freaking vacuum line set up. So now I am stuck with a car that does not run due to too much gas and a vacuum system that is disconnected with no idea on how it all goes back together. IF anyone has any ideas short of a BIG stick of dynamite or maybe a Gatling gun I would thank you. I have been chasing this one for about 6 months and am very tired of it. As well have been dealing with 2 other cars that have a total of 500k miles between just the 2 I am about ready to set em all on fire and call the insurance company.

find another car and look at it so you can hook things up. the excessive gas is probably from the fuel pressure regulator. It is the little vacuum canister on the fuel rail. It is connected with a short length of vacuum hose to the intake manifold about 8" away same side as regulator I think just behind throttle body. You might want to check your fuel pressure also for when these go bad they can lead to this condition. There is supposed to be a sticker in the engine compartment that shows you how to hook up the vacuum lines. Do not set cars on fire they are blameless I would go after the brother.
