Trouble Maintaining Idle, acceleration

Post by silveriodine »

I have an 86 240DL manual trans. When I first start the car cold, I have to FLOOR it to get any kind of response from the engine, and even when i keep the pedal to the floor, the acceleration will die unless i pump the throttle for 5 minutes. When i start driving, the car will putter and jump and sudenly accelerate like a cartoon until it backfires once or twice and then it drives like a dream. Until, of course it sits for an hour, then i have to repeat the whole process. Whats wrong?

I believe that year all 240's were fuel injected. If this is the case I would say that the cold start injector is not working, a common problem. To fix the cold start injector has to be repalce. The function is to supply additional fuel when the engine is cold, it performs the same function as a choke on a carbureted engine.
