1989 240gl Won't start Topic is solved

I'm having problems with my 1989 240gl. First it was a hard start,turned over fine - would start then sputter out. A mechanic ( not Volvo ) diagnosed it as a cold fuel injectorand bad spark plugs. Replaced those - still have same problem. Vehicle would start , idle rough(400 rpm ) until warm then go up to 1000 rpm and run ok for a while . Spark plugs foul then vehicle won't start again . Lots of soot in the exhaust pipe.Any ideas ?

I have an 82 240 turbo and my fuel injection system is different, but I had a simular problem and it turned out to be the temp sesor. It was bad causing the cold start injector to turn on but never turn off. Causing black smoke and bad idle.
