1995 960 SW Photos & several non-disturbing issues

Post by Peixinho »

Hi all,

this is my '96 960, MY95.

2.4 Litre straight-six, NA, manual gearbox M90, 170 hp...a masterpiece

the exterior shows some signs of bad usage, it has scratches in almost every panel. And it is quite dirty. The interior is in nice shape.

a picture is worth a thousand words, so, let's begin:

I bought a rubber cover for the rear compartment....

scratches all over...

This part has already been successfully polished by me, it is not perfect, but it is better. Now, it is shiny black, not the matte black of the picture

Is that really an in line 6 cylinder? With manual transmission too. 2.5 Litre engine, here is a 5 cylinder. Does this have a turbo?

For it's age, that car looks great. Have fun with it.

DanR '94 964 394,000 miles (160,000 on the new engine)
'08 S60 T5 84,000 miles

No it is a 2.5 6 cylinder non turbo. An M90 is basically the transaxle internals of an 850 used to make a rear drive transmission.
I had training on those as Volvo was going to sell them in the US but changed their mind at the last minute. I drove a US spec auto trans model. It was not bad but certainly less power than the 2.9 litre the US got.

Vehicle registration taxes based on engine size are very common in most of the world. The 2.5
6 cylinder was made for that reason.

The car looks to be in great shape for a 20 year old car. I love the manual transmission. US never got 960 models with manual transmission. The upholstery looks like it was taken care of.

yes, that's correct. 2.5 L, inline six, normally aspirated, white block.

That´s right, here are the taxes table for this year.

http://impostosobreveiculos.info/tabela ... -iuc-2014/

so, for a 18-year-old vehicle, i'm going to pay something like 140€.

automatic gearboxes here are quite rare. I would say...less than 10% of the cars are automatics. to support this, i searched one of the most popular (and the only paid) website of second hand cars, www.standvirtual.com . it mathes these figures. But this is a site for quite fine cars, the daily drivers don't enter here. I believe 5% is a fair number.

yes, the past owner did clean everything in the interior. it has a great service history, at a volvo dealer. it has 200 000 km on the clock, and the speedo works!

this is a OBD1 model but I think it is impossible to know the real mileage of the car!!
