Oh that’s good to know about that little switch! I hate DRLs.

I will try leaving it overnight then.

Thanks for all the help! Hopefully, this is the end of it.

You can blame the Canadians. Our cars are built for the North American market. Canada requires DRLs, The United States allows DRLs, Mexican drivers do not use headlights, claiming that it is saves them gasoline.

There is a key position where there is only power to the radio and fan. Its right before the on position that shows the dash warning lights and all. The lights will not be on there or anything else(turn fan off if on). Press the power button so that you see OFF on the screen(It may already be on in which case dont press "power" as that will turn it off (blank screen)). in two hours it will change to CODE.

I’ll try that again. Just leave the door closed and everything? I tried this once but it didn’t ever change.

For what it’s worth, there’s a little E in the lower right hand corner.

That does not sound good, that little E is used for the fifth letter in PAUSE.

There is a Code bypass keypress, I THINK it is: With the radio off, press and hold the #6 button and press power (in other word turn it on with #6 held down). This will bypass the code and let you use the radio until the radio is turned off.

Here is the official procedure from VOLVO customer service

If the radio says "off", you will need to go through the process of resetting your radio by following these steps:
1. turn the key to the 1st position in the ignition
2. make sure your exterior and interior lights are off as well as any heat or air conditioning to prevent battery drain
3. make sure the radio is on and reads "OFF"
4. leave the car in this state for approximately 2 hours in a secure location
5. The radio will go from "off" to "code", you will then be able to enter the code
Les is more.

Hmm I heard about this, too! I’ll give it a shot again on my way to work tomorrow. Maybe that’s what’s throwing this all out of whack.

If all else fails, you can get a SC-81X from a Pick Your Part for ~ $25.00. Just make sure you get the VIN number off the car you take it out of and hope it is original to that car.

Okay one last thing: I tried the bypass by pressing 6 and the power button. However, it still just says OFf with the E.

If there isn’t anything else to try, should I just head to the local junkyard?

Thanks again for all the help.

This is what I found when trying to clear the OFF from a radio from a 1992 Volvo 960. The radio was out of the car so I connected it to a 12 volt source and turned it on. It took 24 hours for it to change from OFF to CODE.
