Check Stop Lamp 2011 Volvo C30 T5 Topic is solved

Got a strange one here. Every time I start the car I get a "check stop lamp" light on my dash. Initially I checked all the lights in back amd they all looked good. Even the rear fog light works. Every light works including turn signals and such. Then I noticed the prior owner had spray painted over the license plate lights so I thought that may have been the issue. I replaced those and all the lights work perfect but the check stop lamp light still comes on. I did notice that when the car is off the upper sides on both taillights stay lit dimly for a few minutes before shutting off but I can't seem to figure out what needs to be fixed. Any ideas?
