2013 C30 manual passenger seat stuck

Post by BlackThunder »

New one for me:

Manual passenger seat is stuck all the way forward. The bar under the seat is all the way up and it won't go down. The seat doesn't slide at all but the back does recline. So I can't seem to get the seat to move back.

Did a cable break somewhere? Some tab not releasing that I can't see? Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!
Dustin

Sorry, only time I've come across this is when there has been a sunroof drain leak and water got down under the carpet and rusted the sliders solid. Car had been left standing for a long time. I still have those power seats to rebuild for my buddy with a set of runners from another car with crappy torn seat covers.

Can you access the bolts holding the seat down with it all the way forward? If you can it may be easier to remove the seat completely to get a better look at what is going on. It is possible a cable has come undone, but I don't see an obvious candidate in the attached parts drawing:

It all looks like mechanical levers, old school.

I would suggest it is more likely something has got jammed in the runners or in the mechanism that should not be there.

Yeah, I can't seem to get anything to move. It's such a hard place to access.

Thanks, I'll report back. Not sure how something would have gotten stuck under there but that is very possible!

Neil for the win! A peach flavored Dum Dum sucker was stuck. I got the sucker out and the track is clear (after standing on my head in the back seat of the C30). I used a coat hanger to pull it out (my Dad's suggestion!). Anyway, it is 1 degree Farenheit in Minnesota right now. No garage so I called it a night. Still the seat will not move back.

I think my next step will be to ask someone to borrow their garage and take the seat out. I'll make sure to disconnect the battery first so the air bags don't go off. UNLESS someone has any other suggestions?

I can see and move the metal pin up a little but can't seem to get it to move after that. The bar underneath is stuck in the Up position. Which makes me think the seat got moved too far forward?

It may not have all been removed or it has just made the system really sticky. Removing the seat if you can would be a good way forward. It sounds like you have got the cold blast we got last week with the -20C temperatures. Hopefully it moderates soon.
