No start after spark plug change

Post by 2005volvos40t5 » Wed Mar 02, 2016 11:28 pm

I have a 2005 S40 T5 -- I changed the spark plugs 2 days ago - after changing the plugs the car started and ran better than before-- Today i start the car it started and after 10 seconds of idling the RPMs went all the way down and the car turned off on its own -- Now the car will not turn over -- i checked for spark and YES it does spark -- i dont know if i should check spark on each plug or not but i did check it on the first plug on the left and all good -- I am totally lost as far as what is causing my car not to turn over -- Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I would first do a nice visual - there was something loose that eventually came off.
If it does not turn over, that would be the starter solenoid, no? Can you hear the 'click' from the solenoid when you try to start?

There are some quite helpful no-start troubleshooting videos made by rspi (Robert DIY) on youtube, you might want to check those out or just search posts by rspi in the forum
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
Disclaimer: We (very) seldom do that

Check your battery voltage, and do the visual check of your connections.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
