Hi guys I've a Volvo s40 2005 1.8s
I've just changed a damaged valve and valve stem seals & piston rings as when I purchased car two weeks ago it had only 30 psi on cylinder one this is now all good

But now the car starts runs and sounds great till you get to half way on temp gauge then it looses power like your towing the titanic

and lumpy idle too and tough restart

I've cleaned egr as that came up on diagnostic but no difference any ideas please help would be great fully appreciated

Done the usual plugs air filter oil still no joy emissions are good it flew the mot today but just the loss of power when up to temp

Could it perhaps relate to your engine temperature sensor? That adjusts the fuel mixture and also adjusts the timing when the normal engine temp' is reached.
Have you noticed that the car is running richer, maybe black exhaust smoke and/or increased fuel consumption?
Worth checking off the list anyway.

Update I've now changed temp sender in back of cylinder head and cleaned map sensor now as I had to remove intake manifold as the torque head screw had rusted up and seized in
This has made a good improvement on its power but same again as soon as temp gauge gets towards half way it goes flat as a pancake again
I can only change map sensor now to try to fix if that don't work I'm up a creek without a paddle unless I change the knock sensor if it has one the crank sensor and the cam sensor but I'm hemeraging money on his car now and at my wits end

It's the 1.8 petrol duratec engine B4184S11 code if this of any help
