2007 C70 Timing belt job vs the 1998 S70 Timing belt job: Similarities, Differences?

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Hey everyone,

Was wondering, what the differences between a 2007 timing belt job and a 1998 timing belt job were. I was able to replace the timing belt on my S70 without any issues (mechanical tensioner) and was wondering how much harder it would be on a newer engine. I know there's more stuff to move around, but is the job significantly more difficult on the C70 T5 engine?

My cousin just got a C70 that's about 15K overdue for a timing belt replacement at 120K...

It is more involved- you have to remove the engine mount on that side of the car and support the engine while you do it... Here is a decent write-up so you'll know what you're in for.

Make your own timing belt gear marks. Take cell phone pictures. The marks can be off the alignment indicator to right or left. Once you have it apart and go back together the doubt as to whether it should be this way or that way are eliminated.
