Nova appears to prefer CATs to VOLVOs.

I still miss her terribly. It was nice that our daughter, living alone in NYC, had a companion and a walk every morning and evening. Not to mention a 60 pound defender. Nova loved baby’s amd toddlers and would peek into kidcarriers and yodel. She let toddlers pull on her ears and feel her fur and just sit still.

Sad day at the bronco household. I had to bury my old lady cat Sophia . We think she was at least 16 its hard to tell but I first saw her in 2010 in the field across from my mothers house. She moved in with a family up the street some time after that and belonged to thier daughter. Then the daughter went away to college and Sophia became only a barn cat there because the dad was allergic. She moved in with another neighbor after a little while pregnant with 8 babies!
Those people got her fixed and distributed kittens about but after a while they got a crazy dog Sophia didn't like so she left and moved into my mothers shed in 2017 in a snowy winter we had that year. My mother had 2 cats so she couldn't come inside the house but my mom locked her in the shed every night then brought her food in the morning and set her free for the day. Then fed her at night and locked her in overnight. We used to joke that she was on shift work because in the day she would go visit her old house and owner but refused to stay.

In 2018 my mothers 2 inside cats both died in a short span and she moved in and never looked back. She had roamed all over the street for a decade by now she was content to be mostly inside sleeping on my mothers bed.

Well things took a bad turn for my mom early in the pandemic and she was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer and Sophia stuck to her like glue through her treatments and was a big help to her thru the chemo and radiation.
what a difference a few short years makes

things wound up going the way they do with these things and my mother passed in feb 2023 and Sophia became my cat . Sleeping with me every night . Even though I had 2 cats with more time on the job , she assumed command of the house .

But this year has been tough on her and a lot of trips to the vets i could see where things were going. I'd made arrangements to bring her in when it seemed appropriate but Sunday night she decided to go out on her on terms. It started around midnight and she came in jumped on the bed as usual but something was wrong, breathing was uneven and she seems unfocused and things went down fast. I put her on my chest and around 2am i woke up because she took a really loud breath and after a long pause more loud breaths spread further apart then no more.

I laid her on the bed next to me and put my ear to her chest and thought she still with us ! but it was my own damn heart beat in my earlobe that fooled me she was gone. Rookie mistake or wishful thinking

I kept her in the bed then woke up around 6 and dug the hole where I had planned a few weeks ago. Laid her in her favorite blanket and sprinkled some of my moms ashes in with her and covered her over.

I swear pets going can be harder than people sometimes. I always think because from pets its all good that comes to an end where they go where with people it can be a mixed bag sometimes.

One last pic of her in her prime after a set to with a racoon , wearing the hated "cone of shame"

I feel your pain ! So sorry for both of your losses.
I lost my Bobby ( my Manx cat ) after 15 years of love. A day doesn't go by that I don't think of him. I could go on and on about him, but I won't. And you are right; it is losing a family member.

Our place in the next life, is determined by how we treat our pets in this one.

Hearts to you Bronco, on the loss of you Sophie and your Mom.

Nova and Artemis (still with us) liked to snuggle with Mom at age 93 becuase she didnt move around too much. :D

Looking back

Our first cat passed in our yard daytime
Otis we had to vet due to a huge eye tumor
Ashley the Grey passed away at age 19 at home
Pandy the twin to Artemis passed at age 3 to blood cancer - tough one on my daughter - age 10 at the time.
Grayson had to be vetted for urinary blockage.
Peter also had a huge 700 mL cyst tumor
Nova passed from heart failure
Ellie and Maddie both vetted from 16 year old arthritis and diabetes

Ok - enough death

that is a long list ! i only have 4 cat headstones plus 1 dog headstone in the yard. But even though I just lost Sophia I still somehow have 5 living cats due to accepting 2 strays into the garage .

There are now days when a car project gets delayed for hours because those 2 aren't ready to head upstairs to the storage area and I can't open the roll up door until they do :?

Still love this one. Artemis waited until mom fell asleep, then snuggled up

Nova loved her too, and was careful not to knock her down with deadly tail
