The trolley problem is a thought experiment in ethics. It is generally considered to represent a classic clash between two schools of moral thought, utilitarianism and deontological ethics.

Keep in mind Republicans were talking about "death panels" that originated during the 2009 debate about federal health care legislation to cover the uninsured in the United States....Sarah Palin, former Republican Governor of Alaska, coined the term when she charged that proposed legislation would create a "death panel" of bureaucrats who would decide whether Americans—such as her elderly parents, or children with Down syndrome—were "worthy of medical care".[2]"
.
.
Now a group of Republicans want the trolley to remain moving...in ballparks, due to hospitals being overloaded, this could eliminate about 15 million US humans, estimated at 5%.

Reminder. If you are using either politicians names or parties in your post, it doesn’t belong here.

Let’s leave the vitriol for Facebook and the VW fora.

The CDC will launch a new "surveillance and data collection system" to track the spread of coronavirus in the US, per the coronavirus relief bill the Senate passed on Wednesday.
...
The CDC must report on the development of a "surveillance and data collection system" within the next 30 days. While it's not clear what form that surveillance system will take, the federal government has reportedly expressed interest in aggregating data that can be gleaned from tech platforms and smartphone use to monitor movement patterns.

Europe eyes smartphone location data to stem coronavirus spread

LONDON – Several European nations are evaluating powerful but potentially intrusive tools for fighting the coronavirus pandemic, a
move that could put public health at odds with individual privacy.
=========

Israel is using emergency surveillance powers to track people who may have COVID-19, joining China and Iran in using mass surveillance in this way. I believe pressure will increase to leverage existing corporate surveillance infrastructure for these purposes in the US and other countries. With that in mind, the EFF has some good thinking on how to balance public safety with civil liberties:

More statistics on US states and CORVID-19 growth rates. My information is from Worldometer. I have added the last two columns in the tables. Any errors or misrepresentations are my own.

These tables show all available US states and territories and the CORVID-19 data. I have sorted the rows for growth rate from March 24 to March 25. Of course, this information changes daily and states with few cases total (like West Virginia and South Dakota) will have distorted results. I have presented the table in two parts because of the screen shot, but it is actually one table in Excel.

My conclusions are many states are just beginning to restrict social contact and have high infection rates. Other states have had social distancing for a week or more and have lesser growth rates. My own state, Oklahoma, started Safe at Home today and has high infection growth rate. You may check your own or local state's results to get a one day snapshot of local infection spread. Again, results change daily.

Do you find this information useful? Interesting? Frightening?

USA infection growth rate compared to other countries:
The USA has the highest infection growth rate of 9 countries I am tracking for the last 12 days. USA has had the highest growth rate for 14 of the last 19 days. Spain had higher infection growth rate on 4 days and Germany had highest on one day of last 19 days (since March 7, 2020).

My opinion - we are not doing well controlling infection spread. We need to do more to control this virus.
