Sprinkler valve leak question

Post by matthew1 »

If you're thinking I have a lot of plumbing fixes to do, you're right. Here's my other from today.

Sprinkler valve has been leaking since I turned on the water to it in the spring. I have not messed with it, not even to recon it. I suppose I should, but I figured while I'm on my plumbing posts kick, might as well get them all in.

So my question is should I take it apart? Could it be a gasket? Or did the winter freeze kill it? I had the lines blown out in October, but by a handyman, not a sprinkler business. This box is the downhill of the 2 boxes, so...

A year or two ago I helped a neighbor with a leaky valve. I believe it was the diaphram as I don't remember removing the valve. Perhaps yours is similar.

It leaks. What will it hurt to take it apart?

I remember, the diaphragm had a small rip in the center.

Fixed the sprinkler valve by removing it and re seating the gasket. Doh.

Also helping to flood the box was the tiny valve located at the top of this photo. It only needed closing.
