Airbox cover screws stripped-simple fix

Post by Skymongrel »

My 2007 S80 air filter housing cover was loose. At least one screw that holds the cover down was stripped. I think I tried to fix this before with a drizzle of epoxy into the screw hole. Anyway I tried this quick fix that seems to be working well so far.

Holding a 1 1/4 inch deck screw with a pair of pliers I applied heat from a torch, once red hot I placed it into the stripped out airbox screw hole and gently screwed it down into place while holding airbox cover tight. I held it for a couple minutes until the screw cooled down and now the cover is quite tight. Disclaimer; I didn't try to unscrew the screw for the ultimate test so not sure I'll get cover off next time, but I think I'll be able to sort that out!

This topic is probably cover numerous times elsewhere but since I had a nice picture I've reposted it.
