Driving my son's 2007 S80 around doing errands and after a stop it refused to start. It did not even turn over. A frantic call to my wife bought some assistance. I checked voltage to battery and it read 12+. A rudimentary diagnostic device said the starter relay was working. I'm guessing starter at this point.

The tow truck driver brought it to my driveway where I installed a new starter and now all is good. It was an easy job; remove the splash guard, remove two 13mm mounting bolts from starter, removed two wires that provide power and wriggle it free. Install the new one and all is good.

The wriggling free part was difficult and in addition to the mounting bolts there is a large guide pin that was seized and even after carefully tapping with a mallet it wouldn't come free( didn't want to damage it otherwise I might not get my core charge dollars) . Finally I noticed a small weep hole near the pin and was able to get a small screwdriver in there for prying. That and some more wriggling got it free. The old starter had a melted wire that finally became disconnected and thus stranding me!

Dont throw away that starter unless you replaced it with a quality unit..Plenty of poor "refurbished" units that dont last
