HU-613 strange problem

Post by Yaworski » Fri Oct 25, 2019 12:37 pm

I didn't see this audio forum before, I could have posted my Yatour installation questions here.

However, I have a new question.

The HU-613 in my 2002 S6 does something odd on an irregular basis. Every now and then, it will jump from FM or CD or whatever to AM. Not vital to my life but it is irritating.

Any ideas? Just replace the radio?

Could be a sticky knob. Pull the Source knob off and look for gunk. Clean off any gunk.

It's not when I'm turning the knob. It just happens on its own. I'll be listening to a song and suddenly I'm listening to AM talk radio. No rhyme or reason.

Its common on those radios. It is the pots behind the knob. They get grimey and start to take on a life of their own. Turn the radio off and give the knob a workout turning it back and forth for a bit. It should postpone the problem for a while.

HELP... My 2002 S60 radio hasn't worked since I replaced the dead battery a few days a go... I was thinking that the age just got to the Radio the radio died.. But doing some reading around the internet I'm scared to go to the Dealer... Last time I stopped to get an Answer on 'why' my wipers did not work right... They charged me $150.00 minimum,,,just to have them check-in with my vehicle.. That $$ really scared me..kinda of a rip..
I'm pretty handy, but these cars are all appear to be computer controlled to allow the Dealers to profit from them forever!!
Are there some tips that would help me?
I found a HU 611 radio on line that I can buy for $30.00.. can I just swap that in ,, and have a working radio..Or??

Thank you in advance

Amy

Hello
I have a 2002 S60 Volvo,, and when I changed the Battery... Now my radio doesn't even turn on?? I wondering if that means the RADIO died, or the computer shut it off??
I was looking to replace the radio from one I saw advertised on line?? But the Dealer said.. it might have to be PROGRAMMED... and the software costs $100.00 and Programming casts twice that... I told them it sounded way to expensive to me.. THE QUESTION is... will a different radio model HU 611..work without reprogramming the radio, or not??

There is a specific procedure for disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. It can be found elsewhere on this site. Following the procedure will insure that no mayhem will occur among the electronic components.

The software that is specific to the radio on a S60 deals with the interface to the radio controls on the steering wheel. To insure your radio will play with the steering wheel controls you should replace it with one with a similar or identical date of manufacture. Aside from that issue, it should be plug and play. I'd recommend using the head unit with the same model number.

To be on the safe side, disconnect the battery when installing the new radio.
