2001 V70XC - Need help starting in Brentwood, MO...

...thanks to Robert's diagnostic youtube video, my remote/iphone assessment points to fuel pump relay or fuel pump failure.

Out of town situation, my wife and daughter could use some help getting it started, and drive back home 400 miles north of Chicago.

Here are some relays listed at IPDUSA http://www.ipdusa.com/prodtype.asp?CAT_ID=1300&numRecordPosition=0&categorycrumbs=1053. I may just drive this weekend to rescue my family and the car.

I read somewhere swapping the relay, say with heater relay. It would narrow the choice between relay and the pump. If it a relay then I would replace it with new relay. So which relay would I take with me?

Pull the fuel pump relay and jumper the base out with a short length of cable with spade lugs crimped on each end, this will get you home then fit a new fuel pump relay - Mike

It would greatly help if I could your description Mike... "jumper the base out with a short length of cable with spade lugs".

The diagram, please see 11C Fuses in Passenger compartment http://www.volvoxc.com/0/resources/how-to/pdf/fuse,-relay-identification-and-location.pdf

The fuel pump relay is CMI12 located on the CEM, pull the relay and connect pins 3 & 1 together on the base with a short length of jumper cable, this will force the fuel pumps to run assuming it is the relay that has failed, or simply swap the relay with one of the other identical can style relays in the same box, just take care as to which one you pull as you will loose any associated power to it's corresponding circuit, CMI2 is probably a good candidate to use as long as you don't need to use the windows on the way home - Mike

Very helpful Mike - 5 stars.

Freezing temperatures, rental car not available on 25th, and can't return home without the car has adversely affected the lovely soul...

After talking over the phone to find a good samaritan in local part stores, in the area, who would sell me a relay, and would try out your recommendation for a fee, I got a laugh.

Failing at every opportunity, my wife asked a lady who had just pulled into the parking lot with Volvo like ours where girls were gathering for a family meal. Lady gave the name of a shop on Manchester Road in Brentwood. Love Google.

I called our insurance and it was delivered to Manchester Road shop, it is a NAPA service center - what does it mean?

Those prices are ridiculous and bordering on opportunism. An ETM reload's software cost is under $100 and oil change should be under $200. The throttle body's online price from FCP is $387.95. I've had a local indie dealer confirm that if it's ordered under the FCP part number it will have software PRE-LOADED for the most common setup (being inline 5 P2 LPT or inline 5 P80 LPT) That part number is for a refurbished unit with new contact sensors and new circuit board. Most dealers don't even know the part number exists let alone that it has pre-loaded software. Part number is 36050563.

Just have them fit that refurbished ETM and pay a little extra for quick shipping.

Aternatively for under $200 buy a used one but be certain it's either from an XC like yours or from a LPT turbo P80

Delighted to see your note Mike. I was reading your posts "Throttle Body" from earlier this year.

I am between rock and hard place. Painfully punitive!
Out of town situation where my wife and daughter are staying in a hotel while car is being fixed. If I did not get it out tonight it would be after the new year. Getting my girls back home safely is priority #1.

Most shops in the area were booked through new year. This shop offered new Volvo throttle body (not reman), and Volvo gasket, and return of original core back to me.
